To save a map, you need to first create (or use an existing) login for LocalMaps. LocalMaps supports the following login types: ArcGIS Login, Facebook and Google.

  • If you intend to use an ArcGIS Login, this must be a login to the ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise Organisation that controls the LocalMaps site. This will be provided to you.

  • Facebook logins can be created by clicking the Facebook option under the Login button

  • Google logins can be created by clicking the Google option under the login button

Once you know you are logged into LocalMaps, when you view a map you can use the Save tool. Click this to save the map you are looking at. In saving this, you will also be saving the following:

  • Map extent

  • Map graphics

  • Any layers turned on or off in the underlying webmap

The following are those not saved:

  • Switching to a different basemap

  • Changing Layer transparency

  • Layer visibility

  • Additional layers added via the add data widget

To switch to a different map (while maintaining your same map extent), click on the Switch Map widget. Choose a map from the list to change to.

This is the OGC standard, KMZ is only supported in WGS84. The recommended workflow is to use WGS84 KMZ files.

Advanced Functionality

Once you have draw a selection, click the ellipsis (…) to open the Selection Actions drop-down menu. Here you can click Click Export to CSV file. A CSV file is generated locally for the feature set. Alternatively, if you choose to view the results in the attribute table first, you can click the options button and select Export selected to CSV.

When you open the select tool, you will see a Enable Buffer Option checkbox. Choose your preferred selection method from the dropdown and then check this option. You will see options appear in which you can enter the desired buffer distance, units and whether to show the buffer on the map. After these are entered, simply select features to have the buffer applied.

Click on the Share widget and you will see an option to Embed this app in a website. This gives the code to use in the web page so the LocalMaps Viewer can be embedded inside.

You can use the Zoom to Point widget for this. Simply enter your co-ordinates in the appropriate co-ordinate system boxes. To convert them, just select another option from the drop down. The coordinates will update to reflect the new system.

The LocalMaps Site administrator may not have enabled that tool for that map. Suggest contacting them to see if it can get enabled.

This is mostly likely due to the basemaps missing not being in the same map projection as the map you re viewing.

The save widget does not support saving on additional layers you add to the map via the Add Data widget. The following are supported by the tool:

  • Map extent

  • Map graphics

  • Any layers turned on or off in the underlying webmap

The following are those not saved:

  • Switching to a different basemap

  • Changing Layer transparency

  • Layer visibility

  • Additional layers added via the add data widget

Troubleshooting

There was a bug in early release of 2.3 that meant that users could not make multiple selections (e.g. opening select tool, making a selection then holding down the shift key to add other features to their selection) or remove features from a selection (e.g. selecting multiple features and then holding down ctrl key to click on a remove certain features from the selection). This has been resolved in the LocalMaps 2.3.1 Quality Patch.

This is the OGC standard, KMZ is only supported in WGS84. The recommended workflow is to use WGS84 KMZ files.
